Hello, and thanks for visiting! A couple of months ago a good friend nominated me in one of those Facebook challenges you may have seen doing the rounds - 7 black and white photos over 7 days from your ordinary life, excluding people and pets, posted without explanation. I accepted the challenge, and enjoyed the process so much that I was soon wondering how I could extend it. This blog is my answer. The photos won't always be in black and white - I've long understood how important colour is to me - but I plan to adhere to the other rules of the challenge for a full 365 days and, in doing so, tell the story of the next year in my life. Knowing how I struggle with discipline, especially self-discipline, I imagine this process will throw up quite a few challenges for me but hopefully that will all be part of the growing and learning process. There will be little or no explanation posted, though I'll be happy to chat in the comments, and I hope you find something here to enjoy.

  1. Now! That's a lovely photo to wake up to...Lovely! :).
I remember seeing a program on BBC4 about Japan, at one point they went to a place, can't remember the name now! But it was an avenue of trees in blossom, only lasted for a couple days, but it was quite spectacular when the blossom started to fall, just like rain..amazing...! :).

  2. Ah! Found this on line...
The cherry blossom usually begins to bloom in Okinawa in around January/February, passes through the middle of Japan in March and April, and finishes with a late bloom in northern Hokkaido in May.
Hanami is a long-standing Japanese tradition of welcoming spring. Also known as the “cherry blossom festival,” this annual celebration is about appreciating the temporal beauty of nature. People gather under blooming cherry blossoms for food, drink, songs, companionship and the beauty of Sakura (cherry blossoms).

  3. Yes, it's something I dearly hope to see in the next few years, ideally in Kyoto. Meanwhile there was no Hanami for us yesterday, just the pleasure of finishing the day working under these beautiful blossoms. It was certainly an uplifting way to round things off. :)
