Hello, and thanks for visiting! A couple of months ago a good friend nominated me in one of those Facebook challenges you may have seen doing the rounds - 7 black and white photos over 7 days from your ordinary life, excluding people and pets, posted without explanation. I accepted the challenge, and enjoyed the process so much that I was soon wondering how I could extend it. This blog is my answer. The photos won't always be in black and white - I've long understood how important colour is to me - but I plan to adhere to the other rules of the challenge for a full 365 days and, in doing so, tell the story of the next year in my life. Knowing how I struggle with discipline, especially self-discipline, I imagine this process will throw up quite a few challenges for me but hopefully that will all be part of the growing and learning process. There will be little or no explanation posted, though I'll be happy to chat in the comments, and I hope you find something here to enjoy.

Hi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started blogging ten years ago, I met all my blogging friends through a guy who had this exact type of blog: one photo a day. His photography had improved from average to outstanding in the time he ran the blog.
It would be lovely if you posted your photos in a larger size, you can pick the size when you actually add the photo or you could choose a different template which would automatically make them bigger. Anyways, that's just what I would like to see you do, make it easy for my middle aged eyes to appreciate your talent.
Your New Years Eve photo "reflections" is my favourite so far.
Welcome to the world of blogging!
Hello Kylie,
DeleteEncouraging to hear about your friend's blog and his improvement over time - thank you for that, here's hoping!
I would have liked to post larger photos and we did investigate that, but had some trouble with the layout. To be honest I'm a bit of a luddite myself and it's only my husband's help that's actually brought me this far! But I had the same thought again when I posted tonight so perhaps at the weekend, with more time on my side, I'll have another go. Watch this space .....
Glad you liked my first photo. It was a real mixture of a day weather-wise, with a storm having passed through and left the air very clear - I guess I was looking for some similar clarity myself as I sat at one of my favourite haunts by the harbour entrance.
I hope you feel inspired to keep visiting as I continue to "find my feet", so to speak. Thanks so much for commenting!
I too received that B & W challenge on facebook. I searched through my photo file, and could only find one. It seemed cheating if I just reduced a colour photo to B & W, so I posted the one I had, and made excuses.
ReplyDeleteHi Cro,
DeleteI don't think I had taken a single photo in black and white before I was challenged, and you're absolutely right - it would have been a cop out to simply reduce a colour one. So the challenge was quite a challenge! It certainly made me think more than usual about shapes, textures and contrasts. I think soon I will have to be more decisive in my blog about whether I put the premium on taking good photos, or on telling my story. I'd like to think I could do both, but the moment doesn't always allow, so we'll have to see.
Many thanks for stopping by, and I hope you visit again.
